Pair of lions carved in Romanesque style, the processing coincides with the dating and the now very rare material was often used in the 10th century in Italy for small artifacts such as lions, but also in the Roman Empire period it was used with the same scope. The marble in question is the “Rosso Levanto”. both lions show damage caused by time and a characteristic patina. You can see on the right side of the lion looking to the left a restoration made with special resins used in the last century to preserve their durability over time.
